Walpole Country Club was founded in 1927 and was originally sited on Peach Street as a 9 hole golf course. In 1974, the club purchased 213 acres from the heirs of the Allen family and relocated to the site of the Allen family’s Spring Brook Farm on Baker Street. The original clubhouse was actually the old farmhouse once owned by Philip Allen, then President of Bird & Son, who built the house on land that was annexed to the town of Walpole in 1803. Golf course architect Al Zikorus provided a new design and completed the eighteen hole layout in August 1975. In 1994, the club retained golf course architect Ron Forse to develop a golf course master plan, and many improvements have been made since then.
Walpole Country Club is frequently referred to as the “hidden gem” of eastern Massachusetts and over the years has developed a reputation for outstanding course conditions, being compared favorably with the best courses of the region. The club has been host to several well known tournaments for the Massachusetts Golf Association including the Mid Amateur, the MGA 4-ball, the Junior Championship, the U.S. Amateur qualifier and the New England Women’s Golf Association Championship.
The clubhouse was expanded and completely renovated in 2000 and boasts an incredible view of the 18th green, fairway and pond from an expansive deck that is accessible from the function rooms, meeting rooms and member dining areas. We are happy to accommodate a variety of functions or business meetings for groups of any size up to 175 guests. Our professional banquet staff is always on hand to assist you with arrangements for your special event. We also have dates available to host a number of golf tournaments for corporate and charitable organizations throughout the year.
The club has a very active golf membership with programs for men, ladies, juniors, mixed and 9 hole leagues for players of every level. Expert instruction is available with our PGA Professional, Tom Giffin, and his Assistant Professional staff.
Walpole Country Club is a proud and active supporter of the local community by providing donated rounds of golf to the Walpole Computer Foundation, the public library, Walpole Hockey, the Gridiron Boosters, VIA Inc., Caritas Norwood Hospital, Walpole Youth Basketball and the Walpole Charities Foundation. In addition, we are proud to host the Walpole High School golf team and provide a venue for practice and team matches.
